Prelude Christ is Risen

Welcome & Prayer

Jim Sanderlin

Call to Worship

Clap your hands, all you peoples;
shout to God with loud songs of joy!
Jesus Christ has not only risen from the dead,
but ascended on high with shouts of triumph!
He is exalted,
Sovereign over all the nations,
and Lord of all.
Let us worship him!

confession and assurance

Call to Confession
While we call Jesus Christ Lord, and celebrate His ascension,
the way we often live proclaims our inner rebellion and lack of faith.
Let us confess this disconnect between our words and practice.

Prayer of Confession
Father, we come to you to confess our lack of trust.
While we sing of your lordship over the world,
we often live as though you are powerless
in the face of today's events.
Help us to live with confidence in your presence today
and in expectation of life with you forever.
Help us to live in a way that is worthy of the gospel.
Help us to stand firm in one spirit, with one mind,
as we work together to further your kingdom.
Help us not to be afraid of our opponents,
and help us to be willing to live, or die, for your glory.
In the name of dear your son, Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon
You have heard what was written about Jesus in Scripture—
how he would suffer and die
and then rise from the dead on the third day;
how the same power that raised Jesus from the dead
raised Him to heaven and seated Him at the right hand of God,
he now lives to intercede on our behalf.
So as we lay our sin on Jesus Christ,
may we do it with confidence, knowing that our names
are graven on his hands,
and written on his heart,
and because we are approaching
the Father through the Son, our sins are forgiven.

OLD Testament Reading

Job 13:13-19 Angie Kerr

13  “Let me have silence, and I will speak,
and let come on me what may.
14  Why should I take my flesh in my teeth
and put my life in my hand?
15  Though he slay me, I will hope in him;
yet I will argue my ways to his face.
16  This will be my salvation,
that the godless shall not come before him.
17  Keep listening to my words,
and let my declaration be in your ears.
18  Behold, I have prepared my case;
I know that I shall be in the right.
19  Who is there who will contend with me?
For then I would be silent and die.
